“We fight with each other, but we fight for each other. Our own growth is strengthened and reflected through the growth of our partners. We want everybody to get better, not only for their Jiu-Jitsu but for their life outside of Jiu-Jitsu.”

Andre Dobrochinski,

Head Instructor, Werdum Training Center Nantucket

Though it’s the first and lowest belt, putting the white belt on is a major accomplishment and the first step and a long and amazing journey. Jiu-Jitsu is a physical sport, it will challenge and test your fortitude at every turn.

It takes courage to start something new, especially Jiu-Jitsu, which is why creating a safe, structured, inviting, respectful and connected academy culture is our highest priority at Werdum Training Center Nantucket. Whether you are new to Jiu-Jitsu or have been training for years, we would be excited and honored to welcome you to the Werdum family. We offer group classes for students of all ages, abilities, and levels of experience as well as private instruction.

What is Brazilian Jiu-jitsu (BJJ)?

BJJ revolves around the concept that a person can successfully defend themselves against a bigger, stronger opponent by using technique, leverage, and weight distribution, taking the fight to the ground and using holds and submissions to defeat themselves. BJJ can be used both for sport and self-defense situations. Sparring, commonly referred to as "rolling“ and live drilling plays a major role in training. BJJ is an effective and fun method of promoting physical fitness, building character; it’s far more than a sport, it’s a way of life.
